2010 planning is underway. The 2009 schedule is shown below for information on activities and a basic overview of what to expect this year.
The following is a daily overview of the event. You can find a detailed schedule at the WatchMyHound Forum.
Thursday May 28th
Mountain Hounds kicks off at 12pm with Crafts for you and your greyhound. Join
us and show your creative side.
Event Check-In begins at 3pm and at this time you can pick up your t-shirts and
welcome bag. You will also be able to participate in the raffle or buy
something from the store.
At 6pm join us for a group dinner at Lineberger’s Seafood Co (humans only).
Lineberger’s Seafood Co is located on the Parkway. At the bottom of Historic
Nature Trail turn left and Lineberger’s will be on your right. Parking is in the
rear. There is a charge for parking so carpool if possible. Lineberger’s serves
fish, steak, vegetarian and chicken entrée’s.
Then at 8pm join us back in the Sidney James Conference room for BINGO. Prizes
for humans and hounds.
Friday May 29th
The day starts with an early morning walk at 6:30. And then join us at Mynatt
Park at 9:00 to start the greyhound games. Going Home Greys will hold the ever
popular Mountain Hounds Hustle.
After the group photo at 11:30 we will enjoy a box lunch from Gatlinburg Farms.
This caterer uses only fresh breads, veggies and cold cuts in their sandwiches.
Lunch must be pre-ordered – make sure you select this option on your
registration form.
At 1:30 we will kick off an afternoon of seminars, followed by a time to
remember those pets we have lost since last year. You will be on your own for
dinner and then everyone is invited to join in the Costume Contest. Prizes will
be awarded to the winners. Rev Susan will offer the Blessing of the Hounds and
then you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through downtown Gatlinburg. Don’t forget
to bring your groups donation coats.
Saturday May 30th
Again on Saturday we will have an early Morning Walk.
While you are enjoying breakfast the vendors will be setting up for a day of
vending. Going Home Greys will hold another session of the Mountain Hounds
Hustle so if you missed on Friday here is your chance to see how fast your
greyhound can run.
Join in the fun at the Greyhound Festival kicking off at 10:00am. There will be
games for greyhounds and humans alike. Come try your skill then shop, shop, shop
and shop some more while enjoying ice cream with your greyhound. Vending will
be held indoors this year at the Four Seasons hotel. They have a large grass
area where the games will be held. At the Greyhound Festival you can place your
bids in the Silent Auction, shop or relax outside.
Dr. Couto will be speaking at 3:30 and this will also be at the Four Seasons
Conference room. Following Dr. Couto we will announce the Silent Auction
winners.
For dinner Saturday night the Gatlinburg Rotary Club will be doing the cooking
and all you have to do is enjoy. Tickets for hamburgers and hotdogs must be
pre-ordered, with all proceeds going to help support their charitable works, so
make sure you order your tickets on your registration form.
Where your Hawaiian attire for the Luau Roo! During the luau Rev Susan will hold
a second Blessing of the Hounds for those greyhounds that did not get to speak
with her on Friday. This goodbye social will have lots going on including the
Senior Recognition. If your greyhound is 10 years or older make sure you include
their birthday on the registration form. We will also draw the winners of the
raffle bag contest.
Sunday May 31st
We say good bye Sunday morning with an early morning walk. For those that are
staying later in the day, join us for a visit to the Arts & Crafts Community of
Gatlinburg. Pottery, paintings, quilts and more are all available through the
local crafters.
And if your trip is lasting until Monday we will be dining at Howard’s
Restaurant in downtown Gatlinburg. Dogs are welcome on the patio so we hope you
join us.
